Ideas For A Cute Campsite

Winter campsite.

Cute is almost always in the eyes of the beholder, and, when it comes to campsites, the potential for cuteness tends to be directly related to the amount of legwork the camper must do to arrive at the campsite location. A drive-up space for your camper or RV lends itself well to a makeover. When you set up camp at a wilderness site after a lengthy trek on foot, you're more likely to discover "cute" in simple things.

Identify Yourself

Welcome visitors to your site with a personalized greeting sign hung from your trailer hitch or propped against your tent. Design your sign with colors and motifs that reflect your personal style and interests, from fishing to quilting to wine tasting.

Mood Lighting

Lights on a camper.

Twinkle lights add a festive tone to almost any setting. String lights around an umbrella or your rig's awning, or set out a lighted palm tree. If you're dry camping, use battery-powered lights to brighten up your site. Lay down tube lights -- solar, battery or electric powered -- to define the perimeter of your outdoor living area. Keep the outdoor lighting at a modest level the neighbors will appreciate.

Comfortable Seating

Lounges.

A comfortable and attractive outdoor seating arrangement looks good and adds to your living space. You'll find all kinds of folding camp furniture, from simple chairs and stools to reclining lounges to collapsible moon chairs, all in colors that complement your decor. Choose chairs with canopies to keep the sun off or with skirts to keep the wind away from your ankles. Add an outdoor rug or piece of artificial grass.

Camp Art

Gnomes outside.

Add whimsy with portable outdoor art. Keep it simple and tasteful; camp gnomes, for instance, seem right at home in the forest, and some of the little guys come equipped with their own solar lights. Or, show off a special piece of metal sculpture, perhaps a family of quails or a coyote howling at the moon.

Backpacker Chic

Hammock in the woods.

Backpackers can put together a cute campsite with a bit of imagination. Clear a level spot to serve as your "yard," set out some log "benches" and use the natural background as your ambiance. If your pack will hold the extra weight and you're feeling ambitious, hang a string hammock.
