Inexpensive Party Favor Ideas

Not everything needs to be homemade, but use creativity to display favors brilliantly.

Party favors are a way to say thank you to your guests for celebrating with you. However, the added expense of favors may push your party over budget. You can buy or make inexpensive party favors that are both unique and express to your guests that you care about them and are truly glad they attended the party. Does this Spark an idea?

Kids Party Favors

Kids' birthday parties can be extravagant. Finding favors that match the theme of your child's party helps maintain continuity, but isn't required. If you are going to have balloons decorating the party area, attach a small toy to the bottom as a weight. Things like a die-cast car or nail polish are great favors for young kids and make excellent balloon weights. When the kids leave, they take a balloon with their favor, reducing the amount of cleanup for you. Another idea is to create a craft station where kids decorate their own craft to take home. This could be a wooden frame or small terra cotta pot that they can decorate with paint and stickers. The beauty of a create-your-own favor station is that it allows kids to create something they want and becomes a great way to entertain them at the same time.

Adult Party Favors

Most adults probably wouldn't appreciate a die-cast car tied to the end of a balloon, but there are ways to reduce the costs of adult-oriented gifts. You can find inexpensive coffee mugs at a local discount store and fill them with hard candies for an office party favor. For a bridal shower, a miniature plant or fragrant candle is something many guests will truly appreciate. You can get a discount at most stores if you are buying in bulk, so don't hesitate to ask or look online for discount wholesalers. Re-wrap candy bars with a personal message of thanks for attending your special day.

Your Favors Budget

Each person has a different perception of what inexpensive really is, since everyone is in a different financial situation. It's important to look at the guest list to determine the number of favors you will need and the amount you are willing to spend on each one. Don't forget to include gift bags, ribbon or other required accessories in your budget. They may seem like nothing, but wrapping everything in cellophane wrap with ribbons will add to your cost.
