Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Budget for your flower purchase. Tropical flowers often need to be special ordered, so it's easy to spend a small fortune. Knowing your budget before ordering will determine your flower choice.
2. Look for flowers representative of Hawaii like the bold and bright yellow hibiscus, the official state flower; the pink lokelani, also known as the pink cottage rose, Maui's official flower; and orchids and plumeria, which are also common flowers for the islands. While choosing flowers, make sure the colors and shapes are complementary so they aren't fighting for attention in the vase.
3. Prepare your vase and flowers. Before you start, make sure your floral foam has been pre-soaked and the flower stems have been freshly cut under running water with a sharp knife or scissors. Once the floral foam has been soaked and placed in the bottom of the vase, use clear floral tape to create a grid at the mouth of the vase to support flowers and greenery as they are placed.
4. Place the flowers you want as the focal point. Use the natural bends and shapes to help dictate the position of other flowers. Make sure to balance colors and use greenery to give the flowers space. Avoid putting large, bright blooms at the edges as they will throw it off balance.
5. Step away from the piece often. Looking at the arrangement from a distance helps give you perspective so you can keep the balance of color and shape.
