Smithing is one of the most costly and slowest skills to train in when playing RuneScape (RS). To train in Smithing, you must gather or purchase raw materials and change them into another form. Smithing involves two processes: smelting and forging. Smelting is the process of making metal bars from raw ore by using a furnace. Forging, known to RS players as smithing, is the process of creating weapons and armor from metal bars by using an anvil. Each time you perform one of these processes, you gain experience in the Smithing skill. To train in Smithing, you must purchase the materials from the Grand Exchange or from another player. To make money from Smithing, you must mine your own raw materials. Mining your own materials is a very slow, tedious process.
Instructions
Raise Smithing in F2P
1. Train your mining to level 10 by mining tin, copper or clay. You can mine all three ores from the southwest Varrock mining site. Walk to Varrock equipped with a bronze or iron pickaxe.
2. Complete the quest "The Knight's Sword." You need two iron bars to complete this quest. You can purchase these bars from the Grand Exchange. After you complete the quest, you will be rewarded 12,750 Smithing experience, taking you to level 29 Smithing.
3. Smelt silver bars until you reach level 30 Smithing. You can purchase the silver from the Grand Exchange or mine the silver in the southwest Varrock mining site. If you have access to Al Kharid, you can mine silver there, too.
4. Smelt steel bars until level 33. You need one iron ore and two coal ores to make an iron bar. You can obtain these ores from the Grand Exchange or mine them from the many mining sites throughout the RuneScape world. By now, you should be able to access most of the mines available to free to play players.
5. Smith iron platebodies by purchasing iron bars from the Grand Exchange. Alternatively, you can use any iron you have in your bank or mine the ore yourself. Smithing iron platebodies is the most efficient way to power level Smithing until reaching level 88. However, you will lose approximately eight coins per experience point. If you do not want to power smith, continue making the platebodies until you reach level 40.
6. Smelt gold bars. Gold is the cheapest way to raise Smithing levels. You can either mine the gold or purchase it from the Grand Exchange. Smelt the bars until you reach level 48. You can use the gold bars to raise your crafting, so you might consider keeping these bars for that skill.
7. Use the previously smelted steel bars to smith steel platebodies. These platebodies are commonly used to cast high alchemy. This is a fast way to raise your Magic skill. Smith the platebodies until you reach level 50 Smithing.
8. Smelt and smith mithril ore. To smelt mithril, you must have one mithril and four coal ores. You can purchase these ores from the Grand Exchange or by mining them yourself. There is a very high rate of return when mining your own ore. You will receive approximately 1,200 coins per bar. Smelt and smith mithril until you reach level 59 Smithing.
9. Purchase coal and mithril ore from the Grand Exchange. Smelt mithril bars and then smith mithril grapples. Sell the grapples at the Grand Exchange to make a profit. Continue this until you reach level 70 Smithing.
10. Smelt adamantite bars until you reach level 71 Smithing. You must have one adamant ore and six coal ores. Purchase the ores from the Grand Exchange and sell the bars. You are most likely to break even performing this task depending on the current prices of the ores. Prices on the Grand Exchange fluctuate daily.
11. Smith adamant swords until you reach level 85 Smithing. Depending on the current price of the ores and the finished product, you may gain a profit from selling or high alching the swords. Use a calculator to figure the amount of gain or loss to see which technique is more beneficial.
12. Smelt runite bars and sell them on the Grand Exchange. Depending on the price of the ores, you may be able to smith them using the Superheat spell. You must have one runite ore and eight coal ores in order to create a runite bar. Continue this technique until you reach level 88 Smithing.
13. Smith and sell adamant platebodies. Purchase the adamant bars from the Grand Exchange and smith the platebodies. You can sell the platebodies or high alch them to make a small profit. By performing this technique, you will make approximately 175k xp per hour. Smith the platebodies until you reach level 90 Smithing.
14. Smith and sell rune scimitars. Purchase the runite bars from the Grand Exchange and then smith the bars into scimitars. The scimitars sell very quickly on the Grand Exchange, and depending on the current price of the bars and scimitars, you can make a large profit. Continue doing this until you reach level 99 Smithing. At 99 Smithing, you have mastered the skill.
Raise Smithing in P2P
15. Use the methods in the F2P steps to raise your Smithing levels. Being a member allows you to utilize all the tools RuneScape has to offer. These tools will help you to gain levels faster, but the techniques stated in the F2P section are the best way to raise Smithing levels.
16. Use the furnace in Edgeville to increase your chance of smithing more than one bar each time you smith an ore. To gain access to the Edgeville furnace, you must have completed the Varrock diary and receive Varrock Armor. Purchasing the ore from the Grand Exchange reveals a great deal of profit. The Blast Furnace is near the Edgeville bank, allowing you to bank your items more quickly.
17.Smelt gold bars using Goldsmithing gauntlets. Complete the Family Crest Quest and receive gauntlets as a reward. Using these gauntlets increases the amount of experience received from smithing gold. You will receive 56.2 experience per ore compared to the normal 22.5 experience.
18. Use the Blast Furnace in Keldagrim. The Blast Furnace only requires half the amount of coal normally required to smelt a bar. Although this is a good method, the furnace is quite a long way from a bank.
19. Obtain a sacred clay hammer from the minigame Stealing Creation. A sacred clay hammer doubles the amount of experience received while smithing. You must have 20 Stealing Creation points to purchase a Sacred Clay Hammer. The tools from Stealing Creation require charges, and the charges diminish over time. After the charges are used, you can return to Stealing Creation to recharge the item. Charging an item also costs 20 Stealing Creation points.
20. Use a beast of burden to carry more ore or bars. By placing ore and bars into a beast of burden, you will be able to smith and smelt more effectively. This reduces the number of trips to a bank, thus reducing the amount of running.
