Make Your Own Invitations With Pictures

Modern advancements in graphics technology help you to create items that in the past you would have had to buy. Greeting cards, postcards or invitations fall into this category. You can add your own photos to make your projects personal to the event. If you have an upcoming event for which you'd like to create a photo invitation, you need only choose from your photos and open up Microsoft Publisher. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Take the photos you need for your invitations. Make sure your photos fit the theme of the event. For example, if you'll use the invitation for a 50th wedding anniversary, take photos of the couple as they look now and then add a photo of them on their wedding day.

2. Upload the photos onto your computer using either the accessories that came with your camera or by scanning them (see Resources).

3. Save the pictures in a file folder on your computer.

4. Open Microsoft Publisher. Locate the "Invitations" option on the left-hand side of the screen.

5. Select an invitation template that fits with the occasion or person for whom you're having the celebration. For example, you might want to choose an invitation based on way you think the design will complement your photos. While a great many invitation templates exist in Publisher, keep in mind that you're going to place a photo on the front. Some of the designs won't work as well with this addition, so you may want to experiment with a few before making your final decision.

6. Name the file and save it in your project file folder.

7. Choose the page option and fonts.

8. Import the photos by going to "Insert" at the top menu bar. Then find "Picture." Import one or more of the pictures from your work file into Publisher.

9. Adjust the sizes of your picture so that they fit proportionately onto the invitation. Do this by clicking on the photo until the little round knobs appear in the corners and on the sides. Click on "Control" at the same time that you click on your mouse and hold down both the "Control" key and your mouse. Drag your mouse until you've resized the photo to your liking.

10. Place the photo in its proper place on the invitation.

11. Write out the information for the event. These templates already possess ready-made text boxes. To change their textual information into your own, double-click on the box in question until the text becomes highlighted. Type your text in that space. Your text will replace the template text.

12. Save your work.

13. Print out your invitations, place them in envelopes and mail them off.
