Make Your Own Postcard Invitations

Give the guests all the pertinent information for your next party, as well as a little sneak peek of the event, with a less-than-formal invitation. Create your own postcard invitations for your semi-formal wedding, a birthday party, a small dinner party or even a fundraising event. By making the invitation yourself, you can tailor it to better suit your event than any store-bought invitation ever will.

Instructions

1. Place your piece of tag board on your cutting mat. Measure and cut a 5-by-3 1/2-inch rectangle from the tag board using a craft knife and ruler. Cut as many of these tag board rectangles as you need invitations.

2. Cut a 5-by-3 1/2-inch rectangle from the decorative paper you want to use as the background of your invitation. Use the other decorative papers and stencils to cut out shapes and words for the front of your invitations. Keep shapes and words relevant to the event you are having. For a birthday party, for example, you might cut out balloons and the word "Celebrate." Remember to cut one of each piece for each invitation. Trace the stencil shapes onto the paper and cut them out with scissors rather than trying to trace the stencil with a craft knife to cut out the pieces.

3. Spread a layer of decoupage medium onto one side of each tag board rectangle. Apply the background rectangle of decorative paper to the front of each invitation. Smooth out any air bubbles with your fingers.

4. Paint decoupage medium onto the backs of the shapes and words you cut from stencils. Adhere them to the fronts of the invitations, again, smoothing out any air bubbles.

5. Paint a layer of decoupage medium over the top of the entire postcard with your foam brush to seal all the pieces of paper to the tag board. Paint the medium over the edges of the card for a complete seal. Let the invites dry overnight.

6. Stamp an invitation stamp onto the invitation, one that prompts you to fill in all the pertinent information such as what, when, where, who and an RSVP number on the back of the postcard along the left side. Fill in the information on each invitation with a fine-tip permanent marker. Address the invitations with the same marker along the right side on the back. Draw a vertical line down the center of the postcard to clearly separate the party information from the address.
