Luau!
Hawaii is so exotic! To transport your guests to the luxurious-feeling of a party in Hawaii is the goal of any good luau party. Here's decorate in a fun, creative, and inexpensive way for a luau party! Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. PALM TREES: What luau party would be complete without some palm tree decorations! You can find either ones that are inflatable (and often have a sanded base to help it stand up) or you can make your own with construction paper taped to the wall. You may also find a ready-made paper one at a party store that is held together with grommets.
2. FISH: Using the added dimension of live fish will be memorable for your guests. Pick up some inexpensive beta fish at a local pet store and some bowls. You can fill with some rocks and then the fish - use this as a decoration. And even a prize for a game! Don't forget to feed the fish, of course!
3. PHOTOS: Is there a photo of the party recipient on the beach? Can you have them added in a photo using Photoshop or GIMP? Print that up as an 8x10 and add a matte frame, then create a station near the entrance/exit of your party with a permanent pen for the guests to write well-wishes!
4. TABLE: Every party has a main table area - make sure yours is decorated! Use a hula grass skirt for the table (raffia). What about sand pails to hold the utensils? Find candles in coconut scents to place (safely) on the table or fill some bowls with water and flowers and tea lights floating.
5. LIGHTS: Lighting is a great way to add a soft ambiance to a party. Use white Christmas lights strung around the party (whether indoor or outdoor). There are also lanterns that use tea lights, or lanterns that use battery-powered lights. If you want to have the full effect, try torches stuck into the lawn - you can opt not to light them if you wish.
6. TIKI HUT: Is there an area of the party that can be turned into a Tiki Hut? A deck? A garden shed? A corner of your living room? Use a grass skirt, flowers, and lights to decorate. Create a sign for your "Tiki Lounge." You could even serve drinks or appetizers from here!
7. KIDS AREA: Are kids attending this party? Fill an inflatable kiddie pool with water and beach balls and let the kids play (supervised). If you have your party indoors, you can still fill the pool with beach balls! You can also turn this area into a game section - create a fishing game with inexpensive netting.
8. WEBSITES FOR MORE IDEAS: The luau theme is extremely popular, which means almost any big party or crafts store you enter will have a second with ready-made decorations and supplies. Don't rule these out! Sometimes all you need are a couple things to quickly hang up! Check the Resources below for great websites!
