Make Flyers or Invitations for Family Reunions

If you're ready to gather your clan from around the country or around the world, having a family reunion can be a time for celebration and socializing. To get family members excited about the event and to make sure they save the date on their calendars, you'll need a couple of materials, including fliers to publicize the reunion and invitations. Make your own custom fliers and invitations on your computer using a variety of different software programs. Each takes just a few minutes before you'll be ready to send out your materials and wait for those RSVPs. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Using Word

1. Open Word, click the "New" button and select "Flyers." Click the "Events" folder and select one of the Office template flyers. Click the flyer to see it in the preview pane, then click the "Download" button to open it in a new Word window.

2. Highlight the placeholder headline text on the flyer and type directly over the top of it with your own, such as "You're Invited to Our Family Reunion!" Highlight the new text and use the ribbon at the top of the screen to change the font, size and color of the words.

3. Highlight the other placeholder text on the flyer and replace it with your reunion details, such as the location and date of the event. Include a way for family members to RSVP.

4. Click once on an image on the flyer and press the "Delete" key to remove it. Add a new graphic by clicking the "Insert" tab, clicking the "Clip Art" button and typing a word or phrase such as "family" or "kids" into the "Search for" box. Click "Go," scroll through the results and double-click an image to add it to the flyer.

5. Click the "File" button and select "Save As." Type a name for the flyer and select a destination to save it to on your computer.

Using Paint

6. Open Paint, click the Paint button in the top left corner of the screen and select "Open." Browse to a digital photo from the last family reunion and double-click the image to open it on the Paint screen. Click the Paint button again and select "Properties." Change the page size to invitation size, such as 7-inch-by-5-inch and click "OK." The Paint screen automatically adjusts. Drag the photo into place on the card.

7. Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A" on the toolbar. Select a font and font size. Click the card and type the invitation headline, such as "2010 Janofsky Family Reunion."

8. Reduce the font size and type the invitation details, such as the time, place and date of the party, what to bring, what to wear and whether the smallest family members are invited or if the reunion is just for adults.

9. Click the "Color 1" button and select a background color for the invitation. Click the "Fill with Color" tool and click the white space of the card, filling it with color behind the picture and the text.

10. Click the Paint button and select "Save As." Give the invitation a name and select a place to save it to on your computer.

Using Publisher

11. Open Publisher and click the "Flyers" template on the "Available Templates" screen. The first time you do this, it may take a while for the fliers to load. Scroll through the available flier templates and click one to preview it in the pane on the right side of the window. Double-click a flier and after a few moments, it opens on the Publisher workspace.

12. Click the headline text box on the flyer, highlight the words and type over them with your own, such as "Herman Family Reunion in Two Weeks." Click into the other text boxes on the flyer to replace them with your own reunion information. Remove any extraneous text boxes on the flyer by clicking once on them to highlight them, then pressing the "Delete" key.

13. Right-click the placeholder picture on the flyer and select "Change Picture." Choose "From File," browse to your digital picture and double-click it. It takes the place of the generic graphic on the flyer.

14. Click the "Page Design" tab on the top ribbon. Scroll through the color box families and click one to instantly update your flyer with the new colors.

15. Click the "File" button, select "Save As," type a name for the flyer and save it to your computer.
