Throw a Caribbean Theme Party
Hosting a Caribbean theme party is a creative diversion any time of the year. During the summer, throw the party on your deck or by the pool for an authentic island feel. Decorate the inside of your house with a Caribbean theme for a winter party that's sure to warm up your guests. You can choose extravagant or inexpensive decor, depending on your budget. Instructions
1. Choose the table you'll be using. Whether it's a picnic or patio table by the pool, or your wooden dining room table inside, you can add Caribbean flair to your party by using colorful fabrics. Cover your table with a lime green or bright pink tablecloth, and attach a raffia table skirt around the edges for an authentic touch. You can also cover chairs with beach towels. Place vases of fresh tropical flowers, such as orchids, in the middle of the table.
2. Set up a temporary bar using a folding table, or decorate a real bar in the den or on the deck. Set out a bowl of tropical fruit punch, and serve drinks in coconut shells, complete with paper umbrellas. Stock your bar with pina colada and margarita mixes, lime juice, mint leaves, coconut milk, and the types of liquor you'll need to whip up tropical drinks.
3. No tropical theme party is complete without palm trees. Buy inflatable plastic palm trees, and set them up around your home or patio. You can also blow up beach balls for your guests to play with.
4. Bring a bit of the beach into your home by decorating with seashells. Throughout the party space, set out candle holders filled with sand and shells; the glowing light will add to the romantic ambience of an evening party.
5. For a nighttime Caribbean theme, string white lights throughout the party space. You can hang them from doorways or wrap them around deck railings. If your party is being held outdoors and you have real palm trees, wrap the lights around them. Setting up tiki torches in your yard will add an authentic tropical feel, as well.
