Maui sunsets make dramatic backdrops for the wedding ceremony.
Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian islands and popular for it's beaches, botanical gardens and the Haleakala National Park where visitors can get a more sedate look at a volcano. This tropical paradise offers plenty of inspiration for a Maui wedding and is a ready-made location for the honeymoon.
Get to the Beach
One of the main reasons for visiting Maui is the beautiful coastline. The island is surrounded by beaches to have a wedding, including Ironwood Beach in West Maui, which usually isn't crowded, or Maluaka Beach behind the Maui Prince Hotel in South Maui. These beaches make excellent spots for sunset weddings. If you want a morning wedding, head to the northern or eastern side of the island for good lighting.
Overlooking the Volcano
Try a dramatic overlook of the East Maui Volcano from Haleakala National Park. The park offers special use permits for weddings as long as you apply at least two weeks before the ceremony and pay the permit fee. If the wedding ceremony requires some set up and a special area of the park set aside for the purpose, you'll need to give four weeks advance notice. The park is a great place to view the raw power of the Hawaiian volcanic islands.
Step onto a Yacht
See the island from a different point of view on a yacht as it circles Maui. Get married on deck with a few friends and family observing and celebrate below. A wedding yacht also serves as a good honeymoon spot after you drop off well-wishers at the nearest port. Many yacht rentals also have trained crews available to sail the yacht during the wedding and celebrate with family and friends.
Visit a Lush Tropical Garden
Maui is also well-known for it's lovely botanical gardens, just the place for a wedding ceremony. Many are open daily and available for special ceremonies on the grounds. You only need to pay a fee and give plenty of advance notice. Kula Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Haleakala Volcano offers several spots for a ceremony in the garden, a large or small gazebo and on the lawn for large weddings.
