Vodka Cocktails
Vodka is a clear liquor that mixes with a variety of other beverages. Some of the most common vodka drinks at a bar are vodka and cranberry mixes, vodka and tonic water, vodka and Red Bull or other energy drink, and the bloody Mary, which is a mix of vodka, tomato juice and hot sauce.
Margaritas
Margaritas may be served either on ice or in blended form. The lime flavored margarita is mixed with triple sec and tequila. Other flavors include strawberry, blue raspberry and pomegranate. The drink is of Hispanic origin.
Whiskey
Whiskey is good for mixing or serving neat. Sometimes people enjoy the liquor as a shot, but often they sip finer whiskeys slowly, with or without ice. Mixed drinks with whiskey include whiskey sour, whiskey and cola, and Irish coffee.
Martinis
Martinis are known for their inverted cone glass and long holding stem. Hundreds of varieties of drinks are available in martini form, such as the dry martini, appletini, chocolate martini and cosmopolitan, all of which include gin and vermouth.
Gin and Tonic
Largely considered an acquired taste, the gin and tonic is a potent drink with simple ingredients. in addition to one part gin and two parts tonic, the drink may include a lime wedge.
Mojito
The main ingredients in a mojito are rum, mint leaves and lime. Mixing in sugar and sparkling water create a refreshing summer island drink. Most bars have every ingredient needed to make a mojito except for mint leaves. In this case, they simply leave the ingredient out.
Long Island Iced Tea
One of the strongest mixed drinks is the Long Island iced tea. Rum, vodka, tequila and gin combine with a splash of cola and sour for a high-alcohol drink that looks like ordinary ice tea.
Pina Colada
A popular island drink available either on ice or blended, the pina colada is a rum cocktail combined with pineapple juice and coconut. It is one of the sweetest and most flavorful alcoholic mixed drinks.
Mimosa
The mimosa is a common drink for brunch as well as for after hours. It is a mixture of orange juice and champagne or sparkling wine. The standard is to serve mimosas in a tall, thin flute glass.
Beer
When all else fails, every bar serves beer. This beverage may be available either in the bottle or on tap. Thousands of beers are available, in a wide variety of flavors and styles. Often bars will have dozens of different beers to choose from.
