Kids Luau Party Foods

Turn your child's luau party into a tasty and nutritious feast. You've decided upon the perfect invitations and the decor, and even bought some Hawaiian music to hula to. For many of your guests, though, the most memorable part of your party will be the food. Does this Spark an idea?

Roast a Pig

Perhaps roasting an entire pig for a backyard birthday party is a bit extreme, but you can make toasted pork appetizers by mixing a pound of shredded pork, a bottle of ranch dressing, 1/4 cup of bacon bits and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Put a spoonful of this mixture on top of sliced bruschetta, English muffin wedges or Ritz crackers, and toast in the oven until the cheese bubbles. Top each one with a pineapple chunk and cool before serving.

Fruit Kabobs

Stack bite-sized bits of fruit on bamboo skewers for fruit kabobs. You can use cantaloupe or honeydew melon balls, watermelon cubes, whole or halved strawberries, 1 inch banana slices, grapes, maraschino cherries, peach or apricot chunks, mandarin orange slices, pineapple chunks, and half-wedges of apples and pears. To serve, cover a brick of green floral foam with a kitchen towel, place it into a clean decorative flower pot, then add water and press the sharp end of each skewer into the foam. Alternatively, you could use a pineapple.

Hawaiian Rainbow Lava Punch

In a large punch bowl, mix a small bottle or frozen can of concentrated Hawaiian Punch with a 46 oz. can of pineapple juice, 1 can of frozen orange juice, 1 can of frozen lemonade and several small scoops of rainbow sherbet. halfway through the party you might want to add more ice cream. Add a 1/2 lb. chunk of dry ice to the drink to keep it cold and to make it steam like real lava hitting the sea.
