Make Coconut Oil Extract

Coconut

Coconut oil extract can be used in many recipes for flavoring. It can also be used in lotions and creams, not only for its pleasing scent but also for its healing properties. Coconut oil is expensive, so making your own is an ideal way to be able to use this extract. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Directions

1. Open the coconut by locating the three eyes on one end of the coconut and hammer a nail through each eye. Remove the nail once a hole is made through the eye.

2. Pour the milk from the coconut into a container and place the coconut on a baking sheet. Bake in the oven for approximately 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Remove from the oven.

3. Separate the hard shell from the husk. The husk will be brown and can be peeled from the white meat with the vegetable peeler. When finished, rinse the white meat under cold water. Grate the white meat with a cheese grater.

4. Place 1-1/2 ounces of the grated coconut into a bottle and cover with vodka. Place the lid on the bottle and shake well. Store in a cool, dark place for seven days. Be sure to shake the bottle daily to keep the vodka mixed with the coconut.

5. Strain the coconut meat from the liquid with a strainer. Replace the oil back into the bottle. Use in cookies, cakes, candies or in the making of lotions and creams.
