Make Flower Hair Clips

Use petals from different flowers to make a colorful hair clip.

You can make a variety of floral hair clips from discount store imitation flowers and a few alligator clips. Cover the clip with a colorful piece of ribbon and decorate the flowers with gemstone centers. You can make the floral clips as a special hair accessory for a child or use one or two clips in your own hair for a bright and youthful fashion statement. The clips are easy to make and are great fashion accessories for a luau-themed party or a day at the beach.

Instructions

1. Take two or three imitation flowers apart. Remove the stem and pull the center plastic stamen from the flower so that all that remains is the petals.

2. Layer the petals on top of one another to make a thick flower.

3. Slide a brad through the center hole in the flowers. A brad is a decorative clip that spreads open on the underside of the flowers to hold the layers of petals together. Choose a brad with an imitation gemstone or other decorative embellishment.

4. Apply a layer of glue from the hot glue gun to the underside of the top of the alligator clip. Press the end of a 1/4-inch-wide ribbon along the glue.

5. Spread a layer of glue on the top of the alligator clip and smooth the ribbon along the top. Let the ribbon extend about 1 inch beyond the end of the clip and cut off the excess.

6. Apply some glue to the underside of the ribbon and smooth it against the clip. Apply a few drops of a fray preventing treatment to the end of the ribbon.

7. Spread some glue on the back of the flower and press it against the top center of the ribbon-covered alligator clip. Press firmly for about 30 seconds and allow the glue to dry for at least 20 minutes.
