Leis are the perfect accessory for your luau.
A luau theme is perfect for summertime parties for adults and children alike. Whether a pool party with limbo and hula-hooping or a backyard barbecue complete with hula dancers, each party requires planning and preparation in order to be a success. When you are planning your luau, be sure to decide what party favors you will be sending home with your guests. Party favors show your guests that you appreciate their attendance at your event and serve to remind them of the good time that they had. Does this Spark an idea?
Beach Ready
Go to the dollar store or other retailer and buy sand buckets. Fill the buckets about halfway with sand. Put items in the buckets that you might need at the beach, such as shovels for making sandcastles, sunscreen, pairs of inexpensive sunglasses, beach balls, and pairs of inexpensive flip flops. You can also include beach towels with your favors by wrapping a towel around each bucket.
Tropical Drinks
Make your own unique tropical drink and serve it at the luau party. Use pineapple, mango or other tropical juices and mix with a tropical alcohol like rum. For party favors, use a large drink pitcher as the container. Using themed recipe cards, write out the drink recipe and put them into the large drink pitchers. Include small tropical umbrellas and a couple of fun drink glasses.
Dress-Up
This is a favor idea that can be used during the party and then sent home with the guests. Find a container, like a colorful basket or other tropical container and fill it with goodies. Include in the basket a lei, a puka-shelled bracelet or necklace, a coconut bra, hula skirt and a pair of flip flops. Give baskets to your guests at the beginning of the party and encourage them to wear the items during the party. Then, after the party, guests are able to take the favors home with them.
Island Themed Favors
You can combine a few of the ideas from above for island-themed party favors. Imagine what you might get if you were actually in Hawaii. You can use buckets for this favor idea as well. Include seashells, bubbles in containers shaped like fish, and Hawaiian-flavored candy like chocolate-covered macadamia nuts. You can also include things like beach balls, puka-shelled items and a leis. Write a thank you note using the Hawaiian words for "goodbye" and "thank you" and include it on the outside of the favor.
