Make Vintage Wedding Favors

Candles add romantic lighting to vintage decorations.

Weddings can be expensive. Finding the right decorations and wedding favors for the reception is often a daunting task. Brides-to-be may spend hours upon hours searching through catalogs and wedding store websites to find the vintage wedding favors they've always dreamed of. Do-it-yourself brides, however, may be able to create what they're looking for without losing the vintage flare they love so much. Simple traditional favors, such as candies, photos and lavender sacks, can easily be transformed and displayed for guests to admire and take home.

Instructions

Candies

1. Collect or purchase tin containers. These can be various shapes and sizes or can all be uniform. Spray the outsides of the containers with the vintage spray paint of your choice. A rust-colored spray paint makes the container appear older than it is, while a pearly spray paint gives an iridescent shine.

2. Allow the spray paint to dry thoroughly. Fill the tin containers with candy favors of your choice. Some traditional options are candy-coated almonds and wrapped chocolates. If desired, line the inside of the containers with cutouts of velvet fabric before adding the candies.

3. Cover the tin containers and tie a lace or satin ribbon around the containers. Form a bow above the covers. Attach thank-you notes to the bows written with a calligraphy pen for an extra special vintage touch. Punch a hole in the corners and tie the notes to the ribbon with a piece of twine.

Photos

4. Collect picture frames from a discount store or purchase them in bulk online. Cut out a piece of newspaper and cover the glass of the frame with it. Tape the newspaper in place so the frame is still showing.

5. Spray paint the picture frame with any type of vintage spray paint. Options include metallic colors such as gold and silver. If the frames are wooden, add varnish to the frames or sand some edges to make them look worn.

6. Remove the newspaper and insert a picture of the bride and groom into the frame. A black and white photo enhances the vintage look. Place the frames on the tables in the reception area and loop a string of faux pearls over each one for added elegance.

Lavender Pouches

7. Cut out 6-inch squares of the fabric of your choice. Use cotton or lace for a vintage look. Velvet may work, but prevents the smell of the lavender from wafting through the fabric.

8. Add a few tablespoons of dried lavender flowers to each of the squares or use any type of scented flower for the center of the pouches. If using lace for the fabric, make sure that the crushed flowers do not slip through the pattern holes. If they do slip through, cut a piece of cotton cloth to line the inside of the pouch. Simply double layer the pouch with cotton inside and lace outside.

9. Gather the edges of the square of fabric together with the lavender still inside the square. Tie the edges together using a piece of ribbon. Satin, silk or cotton ribbons enhance the vintage look. Place the lavender pouches on the tables as favors.
