Ideas To Decorate An Elmo Party

Ideas to Decorate an Elmo Party

If your child can't get enough of Elmo, the furry red monster from "Sesame Street," host a birthday or holiday party featuring refreshments, activities and favors that focus on the character theme. Decorate the event location with hanging embellishments, table centerpieces and wall accents that create a festive and whimsical atmosphere. Does this Spark an idea?

Elmo's World Wall

Create wall decorations that evoke the feel of Elmo's room shown the "Elmo's World" segment on "Sesame Street." Use a color copy machine to enlarge clip art or activity book images of Elmo's crayon-drawn computer, his fish bowl and pet fish Dorothy, the front door, table and the window and shade. Affix the artwork to a wall with temporary adhesive.

Enlarge clip art images or pictures of Elmo from DVD boxes or activity books, cut them out with scissors and place them in random spots around the Elmo's World setting with temporary adhesive.

Balloon Centerpiece

Make a table centerpiece for the Elmo party using Elmo-themed balloons and wood alphabet blocks that suit the "Sesame Street" inspired atmosphere. Get five to 10 inflated Mylar balloons featuring Elmo on one side. If you're hosting a birthday party, use a craft knife or scissors to cut one card-stock circle to attach to the other side of each balloon with white glue or double-stick tape. Personalize the balloons by writing your child's name or applying number stickers that correspond with her birthday on the card stock.

Place the plastic balloon anchors tied to the balloon strings in a colorful tin bucket, glass serving bowl or shallow basket. Cover the anchors with wood alphabet blocks, plastic Elmo figurines or wrapped red candy.

Elmo Tableware

Deck the buffet table out with Elmo-themed paper plates, cups and napkins sold at party supply stores. If you can't find the printed tableware, use red plates, cups and napkins, and affix an Elmo sticker to the center of each one before the party.

Make Elmo drinking straws by making color copies of a 2-inch-tall Elmo clip art image and cutting them out with scissors or a craft knife. Use a 1/4-inch hand-held hole punch to make a hole at the top and a hole at the bottom of the picture. Push a plastic straw down through the hole in the bottom of the Elmo paper figure, and push it out through the hole at the top of the figure.

Elmo Toys

Add personality to the party room by arranging clusters of Elmo toys and stuffed animals around the room that the guests can play with throughout the party. Place Elmo stuffed animals, "Sesame Street" educational electronic toys, Elmo books and plastic "Sesame Street" figurines in red toy wagons, plastic beach buckets or wicker baskets. Fill additional baskets with Elmo coloring and activity books and an assortment of crayons that the kids can use between party activities. Situate the containers on end tables, in room corners or on low bookshelves.
