Ideas For Asian Party Centerpieces

Send bamboo centerpieces home with special guests as a party favor that will last.

Asian-themed parties are an opportunity to create creative centerpieces that can add elegance or whimsy to your party. Before deciding on a centerpiece, make certain you have access to all materials you will need and that purchasing those materials is within your party budget. Put together a sample centerpiece to be sure assembly is not too complicated and that the end product actually gives you the effect you desire. Does this Spark an idea?

Bamboo

Bamboo plants in clear vases make attractive centerpieces. Place the bamboo in the center of a table and surround with white tea lights for an elegant centerpiece. Or, surround the bamboo with small, smooth stones for a natural decoration. Decorate your bamboo with colorful ribbon or small paper Chinese lantern ornaments for a more whimsical and fun centerpiece.

Chinese Zodiac

Decorate each table at your party with a different Chinese zodiac animal. For a tiger table, for example, you can wrap tiger-striped fabric around a vase of flowers. A rabbit table can be decorated with grass in a square vase set on a soft white fabric to remind guests of a rabbit's tail. Write the personality traits that accompany each animal of the zodiac on note cards and place them on the tables as well. For kids parties use stuffed or plastic animals as centerpieces. Place blank pieces of paper and crayons on each table and allow kids to draw their own versions of their zodiac animals.

Lanterns

Paper Chinese lanterns are available at most party stores. They come in a variety of colors and sizes. Use three different sized lanterns to create a tiered centerpiece. Place a tea light candle inside each lantern. Sprinkle fortune cookies on the table as an addition to your lantern centerpiece.

Tea

Create tea-themed centerpieces by using Japanese teapots. Remove the pot's lid and place a pillar candle in the pot or place a piece of bamboo in each pot. Sprinkle the table with loose-leaf tea for added decoration. You can also fill clear vases with loose-leaf tea of different varieties, shapes and colors. Line three vases up on a bamboo wood board and place a tea light between each vase. Loose-leaf tea will add a nice aroma to the table and makes for a unique addition to any centerpiece. You can also make centerpieces using a glass teapot filled with water and floating candles.
