Invitations for luaus and Hawaiian-themed parties should be fun and indicate the type of party you are planning. You can purchase invitations online or from a stationery store or you can make them yourself. Use invitations with a fun tropical or Hawaiian design and bright colors. Does this Spark an idea?
Die-Cut Invitations
Purchase die-cut tropical shapes (or cut your own shapes from construction paper) and glue them to the front of a colorful note card. Tropical shapes include palm trees, tropical drinks and flip-flops. On the front of the card write something like "Join us for a backyard luau." Inside the card, write information on the date, time and place of the party.
Funny Invitations
If you know your guests well, consider a funny luau invitation -- make sure that your humor relates to the style of party you are throwing. One idea is to take an artificial flower lei, and cut it into short strips. Be sure to choose a lei that won't unravel when cut. Glue the ends of the piece of lei to the upper corners of the the front of the blank note card, so it looks as if it is hanging around a neck. Write "Get Leid" on the front of the card. Inside write something like, "join us for a backyard luau" and include information on the date, time and place of your party.
Surfboard Invitation
Cut out pieces of colorful cardstock into surfboard shapes. Be sure to create surfboards that will fit easily into mailing envelopes.
Decorate the front of the card with tropical flower stickers and write the word "luau" or "party." On the reverse side, write party information including date, time and place.
Grass Skirt Invitation
Grass skirt invitations are fun and easy to create. Purchase raffia or Easter basket grass. Draw a stick figure on the front of your card with a thick marker (or print out stick figure clip art). Glue several pieces of raffia or Easter grass onto the waist of the stick figure and cut to the proper length for a grass skirt. Write "Put on your grass skirt!" Inside, write something like "join us for a backyard luau" and the party date, time, place and other details.
