Throw A Christmas Party For Adults

Celebrate the season with an adult Christmas party.

Throw an adult Christmas party that will allow your guests to celebrate the season, mingle with friends and relax without having to worry about refilling a sippy cup or changing a diaper. Make your Christmas party the talk of town by paying attention to details and choosing a different angle. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose a theme. With so many activities going on during the holiday season, give your guests a reason to come to your Christmas gathering. Host an ugly Christmas sweater contest and decide who has the worst holiday outfit. This can be extended to Christmas themed clothing, you may be surprised at how many grown women in your group have holly jumpers or tights in their closet.

A black and white themed Christmas party is a nice touch for a retro movie night. Have old Christmas classics playing in the background throughout the night. Play movie trivia games and enjoy films like "A Christmas Carol," "The Christmas Story" or "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus."

Decorate your home, but try not to stress over every detail. A warm and inviting atmosphere sets a better tone for a party than perfectly matched dining room decor.

2. Serve a signature drink. Choose a special cocktail that can be enjoyed with or without alcohol. Wassail, spiced cider, egg nog or hot cocoa can be served several different ways and are classic holiday choices.

Candy cane martinis are an impressive touch at an adult Christmas party. Dip the martini glass into crushed candy cane. Combine vodka, peppermint schnapps, cranberry juice and grenadine. Shake with ice and then strain into the martini glasses. A splash of lemon lime soda and a small candy cane can complete the drink.

3. Play games that test the guests Christmas memories. Enlist the help of your friends and family and collect as many old toys as you can. Toys such as Lincoln logs, small action figures, a Slinky, Etch a Sketch and dolls. Print off pictures of toys from different eras and have the guests try to match these old toys with the date it was introduced. This game will bring up lots of memories, be ready for lots of story telling!

A popular Christmas party game includes each guest bringing one wrapped gift. Each person's name goes into a hat. The first person whose name is drawn chooses a present and opens it. The next person can either choose a present or steal another person's opened gift. Set a maximum number of times a guest can steal gifts to keep this game under control.

4. Make something. Christmas can be overwhelming. Let your guests accomplish something with a make it and take it party. Have everyone bring ingredients for cookie baking and open up your kitchen and dining room to preparing Christmas cookies in bulk.

Make potpourri with the group. Each adult brings two or three different ingredients to make a potpourri, such as cinnamon sticks and pine cones, or dried apple and cloves. Gather everything together in a big pot and then distribute the concoction to fill individual bags.
