Make giant candies to decorate your yard.
Decorating is part of the festivities during the holidays. There are wreaths to place at the windows, lights for the roof and, of course, the tree takes center stage. Sometimes the rest of the yard gets left out. Turn your front yard into a Christmas candy land with giant lollipops and wrapped hard candies. Homemade decorations make your yard stand out. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Lollipops
1. Place two paper plates of the same color together. Hot glue the tops and sides together with a 1-inch band of hot glue.
2. Insert the dowel between the paper plates at the bottom. Hot glue the dowel to both of the paper plates.
3. Cut a square of cellophane paper that is large enough to wrap the paper plates and come down onto the dowel. Exactly how large depends on the size of the paper plates. Try a 24-inch square first. Adjust the size of the next squares bigger or larger to fit.
4. Wrap the paper plate lollipop with the cellophane coming down over the plate and ending with a ruffle of cellophane on the dowel. Twist tie the cellophane to the dowel. Stick the dowel into the ground so the lollipop stands upright.
Peppermint Patties
5. Place two small paper plates together so the patterned side is facing out. Hot glue the plates together with a 1 inch band of hot glue at the top and bottom.
6. Cut a rectangle of clear cellophane that is 12 to 18 inches long and wide. Exactly how big depends on the size of the plates. Place the plate in the middle of the rectangle. Twist the ends of the cellophane, close to the plate, wrapping the plate inside. There should be excess cellophane on either side. Twist tie the cellophane, close to the plate, as if the plates were a piece of hard candy in the wrapping.
7. Tie the candies on trees and bushes with curly ribbon.
Candy Garland
8. Glue two paper cups together at the openings with hot glue.
9. Cut rectangles of colored cellophane big enough to wrap the cups. How big depends on the cups. Start with a 10-by-15-inch size and adjust from there.
10. Wrap each pair of cups. Use a twist tie to secure the cellophane close to the bottom of the cups.
11. Cut a length of ribbon to 6 feet. Cut 4-inch lengths, two for each cup candy. For example, if you have 8 candies you'll need 16 strips, 4 inches long.
12. Tie the candy to the long piece of ribbon using the 4-inch strips. Position the next piece of candy so it slightly overlaps the one next to it. Tie to the long piece of ribbon. Continue until the ribbon is full of candy. Use to decorate a banister, tree or bush.
