Throw a 50s Party
A 50s decade-themed party often summons feelings of nostalgia for those who lived in the era of celebration. Others may not have memories of that many decades past, but they still enjoy dressing in outdated fashion and listening to the tunes of "the golden age." Whether for a birthday, anniversary, or family reunion, throwing a 50s party is a fun way to celebrate many occasions. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Invite guests at least three weeks before the party. Let guests know that they should dress in 50s era attire, which could include poodle skirts and bow ties. Secure tables, chairs and any rental equipment you may need for the party. Also, be sure to download a 50s playlist with music from Elvis Presley, Nat King Colhe, Dean Martin, and other icons from the era.
2. Visit a local party store the day before or the day of the party to find decor and themed linens and plates from the 1950's. Most party stores have sections dedicated to specific decades. Large cardboard cut-outs of Elvis are reminiscent of the decade, as are jukeboxes and diners. Finish off the look with some helium-inflated balloons in the party colors.
3. Arrive at the party destination at least two hours beforehand to arrange tables and chairs. Set up a food area where guests can help themselves. Designate a dance area and a space for the DJ if you have one. Hang decorations in high visibility areas like the entrance and sitting area. Set out the food, punch and paper goods, and have the music playing when guests begin to arrive.
4. Keep the party moving by playing hit music that will encourage guests to dance. Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" is an upbeat choice that is well known by many people. Play one or two games during the course of the party and offer a prize for the winner. Games could include 1950's sitcom trivia or a fun swing or hand jive dance competition.
