Using bottled for a ring toss is an excellent idea.
Carnivals are wonderful traditions and fun for the whole family. Putting on a carnival for a child's birthday party or school fund-raiser is easy and a good, safe way to keep children occupied. One of the cornerstones of any carnival is the games, most of which can be recreated at home with minimal effort.
Bean Bag Toss
The bean bag toss is a classic game that requires players to throw a bean bag through a hole for points. To make this at home, take a sheet of ½- or ¾-inch plywood and measure out three holes in the wood. The holes should be different sizes: one small, one medium and one large. Using a drill and hand saw, cut out the holes in the wood. Take some paint and paint the wood in a fun and bright color. Come game time, lean the plywood up so that it is facing the players and it is a good distance away from them (5 feet should be enough). Each player will get three bean bags that they will try to toss through the holes. Each hole should have a point value, with the smallest hole having the largest point value and the larger holes having less. If the player gets enough points by successfully throwing bean bags through the holes, he will win a prize.
Ring Toss
All you need for this is two-dozen to four-dozen old-fashioned soda bottles (that can usually be found at a grocery store or ordered online), a table and plastic rings (usually found at party-supply stores or online). Set up the soda bottles in a square or rectangle on top of the table. Have the player stand 3 to 5 feet away from the table (you can use tape to make a line, if you like, to show people where to stand). Each player will then have the chance to throw rings at the bottles (a good number is five). Decide in advance how many rings a player need to get onto the bottles to win a prize. If a player manages to hit that number, he wins.
Baseball Throw
The baseball throw is a time-honored game that still delights players. For this, you will need a set of three aluminum milk bottles (found online or at a party-supply store) and rubber softballs. Place the milk bottles on a table in a pyramid, one straddling two that are side by side. Have the players stand a good distance away and try to knock all of the milk bottles down in one throw. If they do, they win a prize. If you have kids (or adults) of different ages, you may want to have several distance lines to keep the game fair.
