Lodging In Kailua Oahu Hawaii

Kailua offers opportunities for parasailing.

The small town of Kailua is on the eastern side of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The Kailua is home to two beaches, Kailua Beach Park and Lanikai Beach, and a Marine Corps base. Popular activities in the area include windsurfing and kayaking to the nearby Mokulua Islands. Kailua has also attracted attention as the place where President Obama regularly spends his vacation. Accommodation options in Kailua are largely small bed and breakfasts.

Sheffield House Bed & Breakfast

Sheffield House Bed & Breakfast is around the corner from Kailua Beach and offers one studio and one two-bedroom unit, both of which have private entrances through tropical gardens, full kitchens, and are furnished with Mexican-tile floors and wicker furniture. Frommer's recommends Sheffield House for families as most nearby lodgings do not accept children. Complimentary breakfast is provided on the first morning and several dining venues are within a short walking distance, including Assaggio Italian Restaurant. Sheffield House usually requests that guests book a minimum of four nights, but can sometimes arrange for shorter stays.

Hawaii's Hidden Hideaway

Hawaii's Hidden Hideaway is half a mile south of Lanikai Beach and offers two guest rooms: a deluxe studio or the Peacock suite, which has a canopy bed and private outdoor hot tub. Both rooms feature private decks, garden views and kitchenettes with hot plates, toasters, coffee bean grinders and blenders. Guests are provided with a self-serve breakfast on the first morning, and beach towels, chairs and mats are available for loan. Hawaii's Hidden Hideaway requests a three-night minimum stay.

Papaya Paradise Bed and Breakfast

Papaya Paradise is a half-mile west of Lanikai Beach and is recommended by Lonely Planet for older travelers for its quiet and peaceful setting. Papaya Paradise has two guest rooms, which are decorated with tropical rattan and wicker furnishings. Facilities include a small library and a 20- by 40-foot outdoor swimming pool. Olomana Golf Course is three miles away. Guests are offered a complimentary self-serve breakfast and have use of a microwave and refrigerator. Nearby restaurants include Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen, which is a five-minute walk.

Paradise Bay Resort

Paradise Bay Resort, which until 2011 was called Schrader's Windward Country Inn, is the only resort hotel in the Kailua area. The hotel is situated on Kaneohe Bay between Laenani Beach and an ancient Hawaiian pond, and 15 minutes north of Kailua Beach Park. The Inn offers 30 cottage-style suites and apartments and, Frommer's advises, prices depend upon the views, which can include the Koolau Mountains, Kaneohe Bay or Kahaluu fishpond. Special room packages are available that include snorkeling and fishing excursions. All units feature a full kitchen or kitchenette and guests receive a complimentary continental breakfast each morning. Wednesday evening's Mai Tai night with tapas and Hawaiian music and Friday's mojito night are also complimentary for guests. The hotel offers water sports rental equipment and on-call spa services.
