Luau Baby Shower Games

Luau Baby Shower Games

A luau baby shower theme allows the planners to incorporate beachy and tropical elements into the traditional shower. Bright flowers, grass skirts, leis and other decorations help transform the shower location into a tropical paradise. Guests can feast upon summery foods, such as coconut chicken or tropical fruit salads. Skip generic baby shower games and choose active, luau-themed games and activities designed to encourage guests to mingle and interact.

Baby Hula Dance

Divide guests into several groups and assign them each a song. Choose nursery rhymes or songs with a baby theme, or include songs with the word "baby" in the title. Pass out a hula hoop to each group. Play songs and when a guest hears her song, she must stand up and hula. If a guest fails to hula to the entire song, she can be "rescued" by another team member who hulas to both songs. Guests can only be "rescued" by a succeeding member. Give a prize to the group that completes the most hulas with the least number of rescues.

Design a Tropical T-shirt

Set up a table with a variety of different baby onesies and paint supplies, such as puff paint, textile paint, glitter paint and other items. Let guests design a baby T-shirt that you might bring home from a tropical vacation. Encourage guests to use funny slogans to accentuate their T-shirt designs. Ask the mother-to-be to select the winners based upon the creativity and appearance of the finished shirts. Make sure you purchase two to three extra T-shirts to accommodate unexpected guests or mishaps that can potentially occur during the artistic process. The finished T-shirts can be given to the mom-to-be as a shower souvenir.

Tiki Making Contest

A tiki refers to one of the large wood or stone human-like forms carved by Pacific Ocean Polynesian cultures. Tiki statues often resemble Native American totem poles. Let party guests use an empty baby bottle, markers, glue and foam or construction paper to create their own tiki statue. Let the mom-to-be choose the winner and award a prize.(See resources for some printable images of tikis that guests can look at for inspiration.)

Hawaiian Baby Name Beach Volleyball

Play this game outdoors or in a large, open room of your house. Hang a piece of clothesline between two trees or stationary objects inside the house. Using a beach ball or balloon and let teams hit it back and forth following traditional volleyball rules. Instead of awarding points, give each team a letter to spell out a traditional Hawaiian baby name, such as Leilani, Maliyah or Mekhi. The team that spells out their name first wins the game.
