Lds Activities For Kids

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or the Mormon Church, is a religion that puts emphasis on the figure of Jesus Christ, family values, service and missionary work, the commandments and the Gospel. There are many Mormon activities for kids that can be done in the home, church and community.

Scripture Plays

A fun activity for children to do on a rainy day or during Sunday school is scripture plays. Divide the kids up into small groups and have each group pick out a scripture story that interests them. The children must then gather as many appropriate props as necessary as decide among themselves which child will act as which character in the story. Allow the groups to practice for a certain period of time before having them take turns presenting their scripture plays. To make it more interesting, have the audience guess which scripture is being acted out.

Service Projects

Service projects are important activities in the Mormon church that allow members to give back to society. These projects can be appropriate and beneficial for children with some help from Mom and Dad. Have your child choose a simple project that he or she can accomplish with little guidance. Some good examples are picking up trash at a public park or play area or making small crafts, such as bookmarks, to donate to church to be sold. Service projects help encourage children to make a difference from a young age with activities that they can understand.

Pizza Activity

Making a pizza is a fun activity that can help children learn about Mormonism. Gather the children into a group and lay out all of the ingredients to make a pizza on a table or kitchen counter. Enlist children to help you create the pizza in steps; the first step, the dough, represents Jesus Christ, the foundation of Mormonism. The tomato sauce represents Joseph Smith's testimony while the cheese is the Book of Mormon. As you add extra toppings to the pizza, such as meats and vegetables, have children list the other things that contribute to the religion, such as scripture and prayer.

Cookies and Dirt

Another food-related Mormon activity that will grab the attention of children requires the ingredients for cookie dough and 2 cups of dirt. Gather the kids into a group and pass out the cookie ingredients, such as eggs, flour, sugar and vanilla. Call the children up one at a time to add the ingredients to the mixture; while doing this, discuss the food items, such as how eggs are best when they are fresh. Once all of the ingredients are in the bowl, dump in the dirt. Once the children confirm that they would no longer like to eat these cookies, discuss how dirt in our lives, such as lying and cheating, is unwanted because we need only the best ingredients.
