Kids Room Paint Color Ideas

Paint a kids' room in exciting colors.

Painting colors on the walls of a kids' room is an enjoyable way to add room-transforming colors into a space that children can play in and enjoy for hours. Use warm and exciting paint colors in the room for children to enjoy the space that will appeal to their happiness, joy, excitement and creativity. Does this Spark an idea?

Ask the Children

Ask the children what their favorite colors are for their rooms. If the room is for only one child, use his colors as the color palette for the room. For more children, find creative ways to use all of their favorite colors in the room's design. Even when the color choices are numerous and very different, make them work harmoniously in the same space by selecting their colors in the same tone, such as all light shades or all colors in bright and bold tones. Including all of their color selections in the plan for the room's design makes the room feel special to all of the children.

Select Warm Colors

From the reds, oranges and yellows emerge many colors and tints that warm up a room. In a kid's room, reds, such as Poppy and Ryan Red, oranges, such as New Dawn and Fruit Cocktail and yellows, such as Glimmer and Yellow Brick Road by Benjamin Moore Paints are warm and bold colors that awaken the space and make it enjoyable to play in. Many shades of warm colors are available to choose from that do not require clearly defining as primary colors to work well in a kid's room.

Paint a Rainbow of Colors

The cool colors of the rainbow work in a kids' room when balanced with the warm colors. Incorporating the soothing colors of blues, greens and purples in the room can tone down some of the excitement of the warm colors.

An easy way to balance these colors is to use them as complementary colors. Pair blue with orange, red with green and yellow with purple as color tones in a decorative wall design, on kids' play furniture and toy arrangements. Make a rainbow display of all the colors by coloring several containers, each with a different color. Use small containers to hold pencils, crayons, puzzle pieces and other small items on a shelf, while placing larger containers on the floor for storing bigger toys.

Neutrals

Neutral colors include neutrals tinted with warm and cool tones. A neutral background in a kids' room becomes an anchor and base for the array of colors selected for the room. Use a neutral to balance the excitement of the colors as a room accent or as the main color of the room that is accented with splashes of color around the room.

Use warm neutrals for the kids' room, such as Butterfield, Sandy Beaches and Vanilla Cookie by Benjamin Moore. Paint the color on a single wall or create a decorative, colorful wall mural against a neutral wall color.
