Ideas Of Cakes For A Beach Party

Use the beach as inspiration for the party cake.

The cake finishes off any party on a sweet note. The beach party theme lends itself well to several cake decorating designs. Whether you've decorated hundreds of cakes or only one, most beach cake ideas are simple enough to handle. A local bakery that makes custom cakes can also create the beach cake designs if you share the details with them. Does this Spark an idea?

Beach Sheet Cake

A sheet cake is easy to transform into a beach scene. Start by drawing a line with light brown frosting to create the shoreline. Frost the cake on one side of the line with light brown frosting. Crush graham crackers and sprinkle it on top of the brown frosting to create the look of sand. Cover the cake on the other side of the line with blue frosting to create the ocean. Use an offset spatula to make the blue frosting swirly to create the look of waves. Mixing in a few spoonfuls of white icing creates the look of white capped waves. Add plastic palm trees, miniature beach balls and other accents to round out the scene.

Seashells

Seashells add an elegant touch to a beach party cake. Look for chocolate molds in the shape of seashells to create edible decorations for the cake. These molds allow you to create your own seashells that won't contaminate the cake. Ice the cake in blue or any other color you want to use. Arrange the chocolate seashells around the base of the cake and on top of the cake. For additional accent, add a few tropical flowers amidst the seashells.

Sand Castle

A cake shaped like a sand castle is easier to make than it sounds. Start with a rectangular sheet cake as the base. Stack two sheet cakes together with a layer of icing in the middle if you want more height. Add a smaller square or round cake on top of the rectangular cake. Add sugar cones turned upside down to create peaks on your sand castle. Cover the entire cake with light brown frosting. Crush graham crackers and gently cover the icing with the crumbs. Place a small sand pail and shovel next to the cake for an added touch.

Beach Ball

A specialty cake pan shaped like a ball allows you to decorate a beach ball cake. The ball pans typically come with two separate half ball pans. The bakes are baked separately and then attached with a layer of icing between the halves to create the ball. Use icing to divide the ball cake into stripes of color. Fill in each strip with a different color of icing. Blue, red, green, yellow and orange are typical colors on beach balls. If you're hosting a large beach party, place the beach ball on top of a beach scene cake or make several beach ball cakes.
