Ideas For Hawaiian Wedding Centerpieces

Add a Hawaiian orchid to your centerpiece.

Design your Hawaiian wedding centerpiece reminiscent of the tropics with its pungent flowers and abundant flora. The islands offer a vast array of flower colors to choose from as you design your display. You can choose flowers native to one island or all as you create a tall display or one that cascades. Consider the scents of the flowers as the aromas will fill the room.

Plumeria

The plumeria, strung together to make the lei given to guests arriving in Hawaii, contains a sweet scent and represents the flower most often used for Hawaiian wedding centerpieces. With several distinct species, this flower comes in a variety of colors for your centerpiece. Combine the creamy white plumeria with the yellow center and palm fronds in a crystal vase or pack the vase tightly with the plumeria itself. If you prefer color, consider mixing it with the pink or peach variety and create a rounded effect in your vase or create a cascading centerpiece with red roses, purple orchids and bright yellow plumeria flowers.

Exotic

Combine rare flowers together as you design a centerpiece. Surround tall, yellow, tulip tree flowers with cascading shell ginger flowers, which are known for their shell-colored exterior with bright flame center. Alternatively, combine several ginger plants, birds of paradise, anthuriums and dendrobium sprays for a striking display. You could blend the Hawaiian purple orchid with its delicate leaves to several purple and white tiger lilies or the purple anthuriums. The haleconia, which resembles watermelon with its green exterior and bright red center, creates a coordinated backdrop for the lehua blossom with its piercing red color.

Hawaii Theme

Rather than concentrate your centerpiece solely on flowers, consider using other items found in the islands. Intertwine a large piece of coral with flower leis of plumeria for a different centerpiece effect or consider mixing the coral with the kukui nut necklace, traditionally associated with Hawaiian weddings. Place a cut palm frond into a square vase and insert one large fan or conch shell for an unusual centerpiece. Place candles into hurricane glasses surrounded by small bowls containing the plucked heads of gardenias, orchids or plumeria.
