Ideas For Hawaiian Theme Rooms

Add surfboards as decoration to your tropical-themed room.

Whether you're planning a Hawaiian-themed party or decorations for a permanent room, be sure to show off your artistic ability with creative projects. A few ideas and a quick trip to your local craft store, retail store or nearby garage sale, and you will have everything you need to decorate a Hawaiian-themed room. Does this Spark an idea?

Paint

Start by painting the walls in vibrant colors, such as orange, blue or pink, to give the tropical effect. If you want more of a natural look, paint the walls a sand color or pale peach. If budget allows, have someone paint murals on the walls like palm trees, pineapple motifs and several Hawaiian flowers. Use tropical wallpaper borders around the top or across the middle of the walls.

Furniture

When selecting furniture for a Hawaiian-themed room, stick with rattan, wicker, bamboo and iron pieces. Check local garage and estate sales to find this type of furniture for half the price of a retail store. Place rugs with monkeys, palm trees, pineapples, flamingos and beach scenes around the room. To create your own Hawaiian-themed furniture, hot-glue seashells, starfish and other tropical items to the furniture. Change all drawer knobs to tropical-themed objects or paint these objects on plain knobs.

Plants

Use real or artificial Hawaiian plants around the room. Plants like the pink plumeria, orange orchids, bird of paradise and red hibiscus are perfect for a Hawaiian-themed room. Place large palms such as cyca, areca and coconut around the room in wicker planters.

Accessories

Hang framed art and posters of beach scenes, tropical fish, ocean reef life and palm trees. Other Hawaiian-themed wall art includes tiki tribal masks that can be hung on the walls or put on stands. Floor and table water fountains add a relaxing sound to any Hawaiian-themed room. Paint pictures of hula girls, pineapples, seashells, starfish, palm trees and coconuts on wall outlet covers and light switch covers. Place coconut candles, artificial fruit bowls, colorful Hawaiian throw pillows and bamboo rugs around the room.

Surfboards

Purchase a used surfboard from a garage or estate sale. Prop the surfboard up in a corner of the room. When hosting a Hawaiian-themed party, place the surfboard on top of two boards and use it as a table. Put food and drinks on the surfboard.
