Ideas For Wedding Decoration Themes

Bride and groom on the beach.

When some brides imagine what their wedding might be like, they close their eyes and visualize a romantic combination of flowers, beautiful colors, pretty dresses, long flowing veil and bridal gown with pearls, sparkles and beads. Or maybe they envision themselves barefoot on a beach, flower in their hair, while the groom wears a white cotton shirt and flip-flops. Each couple is different; consequently, a decorative theme might be more important for some than for others.

Wedding for All Seasons

Design your wedding around any season of the year. Spring wedding decorations could mark a new beginning by including spring bulbs such as gladiolas, tulips and daffodils. Autumn wedding decorations, with fiery fall colors, could include autumn-leaf place cards with red, gold and brown silk leaves adorning the tables and walls. If you have a winter wedding, use rich winter-weight fabrics for your gown and attendants, and present guests with snow globes or Christmas candles to take home. If your wedding date is close to Christmas, chances are the reception hall will have a decorated Christmas tree, but you should check to be sure.

Heavenly Wedding

If you have always pictured a sparkly dress and shiny trinkets as part of your wedding, you can take it a step further and use a celestial d cor as your wedding theme. If your celestial wedding is during the summer, consider having at least part of your wedding reception outdoors so the stars can serve as heavenly decorations. If that isn't possible, consider holding your reception at a planetarium that caters weddings. Alternatively, provide your own celestial ambiance by decorating with small twinkle lights and glow-in-the-dark stars that stick to walls and ceilings. Be sure to get the stick-on the stars approved by whomever you book your reception room through. Include moons and stars on your invitations and utilize celestial colors such as gold, silver, navy and black. Continue the theme by selecting bridesmaid dresses in colors to match the invitations. The groom and his attendants could wear glittery cummerbunds. Sprinkle shiny moons and stars on top of the tablecloths at the reception.

Hawaiian Wedding When You're Not in Hawaii

For many couples, a true destination wedding isn't practical. Just because you don't get married in Hawaii doesn't mean you can't have a Hawaiian-style wedding. Design an invitation based on a tropical theme. If you want guests to wear tropical attire, let them know by indicating it on the invitation. Order fresh leis for the bride and groom, attendants, parents and grandparents. If fresh isn't possible, use artificial. The groom and his attendants could wear stylish Hawaiian shirts. If the wedding is very casual, then the brighter, the better. If you hold your reception outdoors, light tiki torches for island atmosphere, and if possible, make the reception a total luau by burying a pig in luau tradition and serving Mai Tais.

Additional Wedding Themes

The only limit when it comes to decorations and wedding themes is your imagination. Other ideas for themes are Gothic, medieval, pirate, Mardi Gras, Halloween, African, fairytale, golf, nautical, rock and roll, butterfly, western, and cultural such as Greek, Italian or Asian.
