Plan A Menu For An Adult Birthday Party

Plan the menu for an adult birthday party.

The food that you'll serve at an adult birthday party is one of the major focuses of the day. It can easily set the tone for the event--there's definitely a different feeling between a barbecue and a sit-down steak dinner. When you plan a menu for an adult birthday party, think about the tastes of your birthday honoree and the money you have to spend. With that in mind, you'll have a winning combination. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose a food that's appropriate for the time. If you schedule your party around six or later in the evening, most guests will show up hungry and expecting dinner, so you'll want to serve a meal. If the party is in the afternoon, there's a good chance that people will have eaten and you can plan to have more of a buffet or snack-style foods.

2. Pick a theme for the party and its food. If the birthday honoree has a particular interest, such as sports, you could have a sports-themed party, where you can serve hot dogs and hamburgers, along with other cookout foods. Or if the birthday person has a particular favorite food, such as Mexican, you can have a "make your own taco" bar.

3. Factor in the cost of the food. If you're planning a party on a budget, you may not have enough money to serve expensive cuts of meat. Stick to cheaper cuts or meat that can be incorporated into a dish rather than served alone.

4. Design a menu that's easy to prepare. Unless you're hiring a caterer, you'll want foods that you can prepare ahead of time and are easy to make for the number of guests that you'll have. For example, you could bake a lasagna and toss a large salad.

5. Quench thirst with drinks. You don't have to serve alcohol but many adult guests enjoy a good drink. You can fill up the cooler with beer and soda for something casual or set up a bar and allow guests to make their own mixed drinks.

6. Remember the cake. The birthday cake is the most important food at the party. Choose the cake that's the favorite of the birthday honoree. At an adult party, you don't have to stick with the traditional cake. You can choose a cheesecake or a fruit tart instead. Just make sure to have enough for all of your guests.
