Ideas For Senior Citizen Activities

Senior citizens enjoy fun activities such as bingo and crafts.

Senior citizens can pass free time by engaging in recreational activities and games. From playing a game of bingo to making a craft, seniors will make new friends and stay busy by engaging in activities. Award prizes for game winners and a job well done to maintain enthusiasm and promote friendly competition.

Crafts

Many seniors enjoy making crafts. The seniors can paint stained glass, paint plaster sculptures or paint a picture on canvas or paper. Supply the senior citizens with several paintbrushes, paints, markers, pencils and other art supplies, and let their imagination run wild.

Walk

Gather a group of seniors who are willing and capable of walking to go for an evening stroll. Take the seniors on a walk through the park and let them enjoy the outdoor scenery.

Games

Play board games, bingo or a game of horseshoes with senior citizens. Award prizes, such as lotions, candy, snacks and gift cards, to all game winners to show appreciation for their effort. Fill a large, clear jar with hard candies and write down how many candies are in the jar. Let the seniors guess how many candies are in the jar. The senior who provides the number closest to the number of candies in the jar, wins the jar of candy.

Wine and Dessert Party

Throw a wine and dessert party for a group of senior citizens. If you have a local winery, they might be willing to come out and present different types of wine to the seniors. Make small gift bags with samples of chocolate and candies. Be sure to include sugar-free treats for seniors with a diet that limits sugar. Create tables with chocolate-covered strawberries, cakes and other desserts for the seniors to sample. Use fancy wine glasses, dishes and platters to make this an elegant event for the seniors.

Dance Party

If budget allows, hire a DJ to play tunes for the seniors. Have them get up and dance to their favorite music. If your budget is limited, have someone bring a CD player and play music for the seniors. Seniors can twist, shake and dance until they are tired. This gets them off their feet and provides exercise in an exciting way.
