Animals
Creating an animal-themed cake is fun and simple. Create your cake in the shape of his favorite animal by using pans of various sizes for the body parts. A simpler plan is to place small toy animals on the cake, or create cupcakes with different animal designs on them.

To create a jungle-themed cake, place miniature fake trees, shrubs and animals on the cake. Create a waterfall scene by stacking three different sized sheet cakes. Start with the largest layer on the bottom. Use green icing on the entire cake except for a strip with blue icing for the waterfall. The waterfall should cascade down the three tiers.
Aviation
Most baby boys love airplanes. Bake a regular sheet cake and cover with blue icing. Use white icing for the clouds and place small toy airplanes on the cake. You can use icing for the planes if you wish. Draw clouds in the shape of the birthday boy's name coming from one of the planes.

Celebrate your son's first birthday with musical instruments. Bake a simple white sheet cake with black sheet music going across it or a keyboard.
