Parasols make attractive wedding accoutrements and can also be used in home decor. Larger parasols can be used over smaller bistro tables as patio umbrellas. You can make large paper parasols to complement your event simply and inexpensively. Using paper is a versatile and economical way to make decorations, and with a little creativity no one will even know that your pretty parasols are made of paper.
Instructions
1. Cut a large circle from the poster board. Use as much of the poster board as possible when making your circle.
2. Cut 2 circles of tissue paper 2 inches larger than the paper circle. Glue one on top of the poster board and the other on the bottom. Allow the glue to dry, then trim off any excess tissue from the edge.
3. Cut a slit in one side of the covered paper from the edge to the center of the circle. Form the circle into a cone and glue the overlapping flaps together.
4. Glue ribbon around the edge of the cone to cover the rough edge of the paper. Wrap more ribbon around a 3/4-inch dowel and glue in place.
5. Poke a hole in the center of the cone and push the top of the dowel through it. Glue in place and allow to dry completely before using.
