Sign up your friend for a tai chi class. To make attendance fun, sign up yourself and meet him for the first couple of classes at least. Tai chi is a suitable way for an older person to stay fit. It exercises the body without putting a lot of stress on the joints. Tai chi will also teach your friend breath better. Sign up for a class that meets somewhere close to him and is geared toward seniors.
Spa Day
Treat your friend/relative to a day at the spa. A spa certificate should include a pedicure, manicure and a massage. Other amenities you might think about include facials, body wraps and loofah treatments. Even men enjoy going to the spa. If you think your friend/relative might be timid about a day at the spa, offer to go with her. Pick her up and have a cold bottle of water ready for a healthy day at the spa. Afterward, the two of you could go to lunch together.
Sailboat Ride
A boat ride on a local river or along a local beach would be a nice way to celebrate a 60th birthday. Hire a professional sailboat and crew to take the birthday guy and a friend out for the day. Spring for a nice lunch aboard ship to make it really fun.
