Make Moist Cupcakes With A Baby Theme

Baby-themed cupcakes make great baby shower decorations.

Moist cupcakes can be the perfect sweet treat to bring to a friend or family member's baby shower. Whether the baby will be a boy or a girl these cupcakes can be used as decorations and dessert. Most baby-themed cupcakes start with the basics of making a batch of cupcakes, and then it's up to you to do the decorating. Decorating your cupcakes will require colored icing. For a fun touch you can add a candy pacifier to each cupcake. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

Baking Moist Cupcakes

1. Follow the instructions on your box of cake mix to mix the batter. Most cake mixes need an egg and cooking oil. Add an extra 1/4 cup of oil per box of cake mix to make cupcakes extra moist.

2. Preheat the oven to the temperature on the box, usually 350 degrees F.

3. Place a baking cup inside each cup holder of the muffin pan. Fill each baking cup about three quarters with batter. Place in the oven and set the oven timer for the shortest amount of cooking time mentioned on the box of cake mix. If you overcook the cupcakes they will not be moist.

4. Take the cupcakes out of the oven when the cooking time is complete; be sure to wear oven mitts to avoid burning your hands.

5. Test two or three cupcakes by inserting and removing a toothpick into the center. If batter sticks to the toothpick, cook the cupcakes for about three more minutes and run the test again. Continue this until the toothpick comes out clean.

6. Allow cupcakes to cool for at least an hour before you begin decorating. If you begin while cupcakes are warm the icing will melt.

Decorating Baby Themed Cupcakes

7. Mix copper icing color with buttercream icing if you are making light skin toned cupcakes. For a medium skin tone you can slowly mix chocolate icing into the buttercream and copper color mixture until you reach the color you want. For dark skin tones you can use chocolate icing.

8. Spread skin tone icing smoothly over each cupcake with a spatula.

9. Melt chocolate and yellow melting candies as directed by the package. Fill one disposable decorating bag with each color of melted candy.

10. Spread out a piece of parchment paper and with the yellow candy squeeze out ovals about one-quarter the area of the top of the cupcakes. Make one oval per cupcake. Stick a Life Saver gummy in the center of each oval to make the candy pacifier. Cool the pacifiers in the refrigerator until they harden.

11. Spread out another piece of parchment paper and with the chocolate candy use the number two decorating tip to squeeze out thin curls for hair. Make one curl per cupcake. Place the curls in the refrigerator until they cool.

12. Use the melted chocolate in the bag with the number two decorating tip to draw two lines of contented sleeping eyes and a smiling mouth on each cupcake.

13. Put skin colored icing in a disposable decorating bag and use the number two decorating tip to squeeze out a small lump of icing in the center of each cupcake. This will make the babies' noses.

14. Take the pacifiers and curls out of the fridge when they've cooled. They should peel right off the parchment paper. Stick each curl at the top of the baby's head and each pacifier at the center of each baby's mouth.
