Make Reception Invitations For A Wedding

Wedding reception invitations should reflect the traditional or informal nature of your wedding.

The wedding reception is a party that is held after a wedding to celebrate the marriage of two people. Most couples prefer to have the wedding ceremony and wedding reception at different venues. The wedding reception invitation is a way to inform your guests about where and when the reception will be held. In recent years, more couples have chosen informal styles of invitations that incorporate their eclectic lifestyles. Whether the couple has a traditional wedding or an informal ceremony, some general guidelines exist for creating your own wedding reception invitations.

Instructions

1. Decide if you want the invitation to be engraved, handwritten or printed. If the invitation is handwritten, the bride traditionally does the writing. Engraving invitations is costly and is usually outsourced to a local printing company; printing the invitation from your own printer allows you to choose the font, style and color to complement your personal style.

2. Select the type of paper you want to print the invitations on; invitations look better on high-quality paper. Multiple types of paper stock and design templates are available to choose from at stores such as Target, Walmart, Kinko's, Office Depot, OfficeMax and Staples as well as online.

3. Convey what you want to say in the invitation in a concise manner. Include basic information such as the address of the venue, the date and time, and the type and style of reception. Types of receptions are luncheons, cocktails and dinner, or breakfast; the style of the reception may be formal or casual.

4. Clearly state who you are inviting in each invitation; a wedding reception is a party, and some couples may elect to have children present at the ceremony but not at the reception. For example, if the entire family is invited, you might address the invitation as "We invite you and your family ..."; if it is an adult-only reception, you might write "You are invited to an adult-only reception. ..."

5. Address the reception envelopes. Seal an RSVP card and the invitation card in the reception envelope. Use the RSVP card to get an accurate count of the guests for the catering and seating placement.

6. Place everything in a large envelope for mailing. Mail your reception invitations separately from your wedding ceremony invitations. You may decide to invite certain people to the wedding and not the reception and vice versa.
