Make Your Own Homemade Luau Decorations
Hang Ten (aloha shirts, that is). With summer's end just around the corner, now is the ideal time to celebrate the best the season has to offer by throwing a homemade luau. Whether you're planning a pool party in your backyard, a BBQ in the local park or an old-fashioned beach-blanket bikini bash, evoking Hawaii's carefree spirit with an aloha shirt swag will require little more than a trip to your local thrift shop and a touch of creativity. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Go on a scavenger hunt. If you don't already own several aloha shirts, garage sales and thrift shops are a good place to pick up the bright button-ups for cheap.
2. Attach aloha shirts to several feet of rope with clothespins. If your luau is going to last until dark, you might consider hanging your shirts on miniature Italian lights instead of rope, which will make a cheery garland after the sun's gone down.
3. Drape the swag between trees or along a backyard fence or in front of a buffet table. Tie or nail the ends to secure.
