Handmade invitations allow you to design a unique look that expresses you.
Anyone can go to a printer or to a store to buy invitations for fall's many events. However, these can be expensive. Making your own invitations for autumnal events gives you a chance to express your own sensibility of the season. You get to choose the fall colors, paper stock and decide exactly what the invitation will say. The handmade invitations can make great keepsakes for events ranging from a spooky Halloween party to a Thanksgiving feast. By following a few simple steps, you can make an unlimited variety of fall-themed invitations inexpensively and with flair.
Instructions
1. Choose the paper for the printed portion of the invitation. Make sure the paper you have chosen will absorb printer ink. For fall gatherings think about autumn colors of gold, bronze, burnt orange, ochre, red, moss green, copper, scarlet and silver. Keep in mind apples, pumpkins, cranberries and fall flowers.
2. Create a template for your fall invitation, using your computer's word processing program. You have a variety of borders, sizes and fonts from which to choose. Import a breathtaking photo of brilliantly-colored fall trees or an image of a cornucopia filled with crisp autumn apples from stock photo sites on-line. Create columns, if appropriate. Refer to the word processing help tool on the processing program to provide instructions in setting up your invitation template. Many colorful, free Halloween and Thanksgiving invitation templates are available on-line. Print the invitations on the chosen 8 1/2-by-11-inch paper. Fold the printed invitations in half either vertically or horizontally, depending on the invitation layout chosen. The printing should be on the inside of the folded invitation.
3. Fold a piece of 8 1/2-by-11-inch handmade paper to fit on the outside of the folded invitation. Make necessary adjustments to the size of the invitation so that no invitation edges show around the edges of the handmade paper. Beautiful handmade papers are available in the dazzling colors of fall foliage and in subtle leaf prints that add the festive feeling of autumn to the invitation.
4. Secure the paper invitation to the handmade paper cover with ribbon. Wrap a beautiful ribbon around the middle of the folded invitation and handmade cover combination or, using a hole punch, create two holes in the paper combination and thread with a beautiful ribbon or raffia. Add a dried flower or leaf to the ribbon as you tie a knot. Use your imagination as to appropriate, fun or elegant fall-inspired embellishments, depending on the occasion.
