Make Your Own Fishing & Camping Decor

Make Your Own Fishing & Camping Decor

Many people spend hours and hours fishing or camping--or both. Bring a little of the outdoors inside by using rustic decorations. You can find fishing and camping décor at yard sales and flea markets as well as bait and specialty shops. By making your own fishing and camping décor, you can save money and make the style a little more personal. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Collect old-fashioned lures. Use these to make a shadow box. Purchase the actual shadow box and line the case with 2 layers of quilt batting. Top the quilt batting with some decorative fishing fabric or just some fabric that coordinates with your room or the fishing lures. Lay the fishing lures on top of the fabric and batting. Sew one stitch of thread around an inconspicuous spot of the lure and knot the thread on the back of the fabric to hold the lure in place. Hang the shadow box.

2. Make window coverings out of canvas. Measure up and over your window casing and buy a piece of lightweight canvas to that length. Hem the edges of the canvas by folding under the raw edges and sewing them in place. Drape the canvas over your windows so that they look like the opening to a tent. Screw drapery hooks at the sides and middle of the top of the window casing to hold up the fabric.

3. Fill an umbrella stand with fishing poles. Set the umbrella stand in the corner for a unique fishing decoration.

4. Hang a stuffed fish or two up in the room. Find these at sporting goods stores or catch a fish and have it stuffed yourself.

5. Use bobbers as doorknobs on entertainment centers and other cabinets in the room. Drill a hole in the bobber. Put a screw in through the back of the door and right into the bobber.

6. Lay out maps of popular camping areas under the glass of a hinged, glass top coffee table.

7. Put several blankets that match your camping and fishing theme colors into a large picnic basket for guests to grab if they are cold.

8. Use another picnic basket or a cooler to store books on camping and fishing.
