Add darker colors in the center of your foam flowers to make them look more realistic.
Plumeria flowers, more commonly known as the lei flower, can be found in the tropical climates of the Caribbean and Pacific Islands. These beautiful flowers come in a variety of colors and have a very sweet fragrance. Oftentimes, people create foam Plumeria flowers for use in hair clips and leis, as they will last longer and retain their color.
Instructions
1. Trace out five Plumeria-shaped petals onto your sheet of colored foam. The petals should be approximately 2 to 3 inches in length and 2 inches wide, with a rounded edge, to resemble the shape of a plumeria flower. If you are not familiar with the flower, look for a photograph of the flower to use as your guide.
2. Cut out the five petals from the foam. Cut out darker green leaves to accent your flowers.
3. Use your scissors to cut a small slit at the bottom of your petals. These will give your flowers a rounded shape.
4. Poke the wooden dowel through your accent leaves which will act as the base. Fold the slits on one petal so the flower is rounded and push the dowel through the fold, securing the petal in place. Repeat for the remaining four petals.
5. Cut off the remaining dowel. Apply a small ball of green clay to the underside of the flower to hold it together. Apply a small ball of yellow clay to the stick in the center of the flower to hold the petals together.
6. Use decorative paints to add details to the flower. Plumerias come in many colors so you can get creative with your finishing touches.
