Instructions

Make Non-Alcoholic Summer Drinks

1. Try Thai: Thai iced tea is a refreshing, elegant treat. To make six servings of the tea, boil six cups of water and steep with five Thai red tea bags. When the tea is a dark orange, remove the bags and chill. When it is cold, add 6 to 8 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. Serve iced in a tall glass with a straw.

2. Be a Smooth Operator: Make delicious smoothies with your favorite fruits. Smoothies are best when you start with frozen fruit. Put one cup frozen fruit (berries and bananas are always a hit) in the blender and add 2 cups milk or cold water. Add sugar to taste and vanilla if using milk. Blend until entirely combined. Serve immediately.

3. Summery Sun Tea: To make herbal sun tea, put 1 liter of water in a glass jar. Add one cup of your favorite fresh herbs such as mint, lemon verbena or chamomile. Or use three of your favorite herbal tea bags. Cover the jar and set in a sunny spot. Allow it to brew for at least four hours. Sweeten to taste with honey and serve in a pitcher with ice.

4. A Refreshing Yogurt Drink: In the sultry Middle East, people cool off with a cool, savory yogurt drink called Ayran. To make it, take quart of plain yogurt and add 3 cups of water or skim milk. Stir until smooth, then add salt to taste. Serve in tall glasses over ice.

5. Sip a Spritzer: If you want a light drink, try mixing a quart of your favorite fruit juice with a liter of bubbly mineral water. Ice and serve immediately.
