Whether you host a beach theme birthday party, a luau or a Caribbean wedding, palm tree centerpieces can help set the mood for your celebration and add to the ambiance. Palm tree centerpieces are inexpensive to make. You can make all of your centerpieces the same or vary them by accenting the centerpieces with different colored beach towels or miniature beach chairs. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Use the ruler to measure four pieces of ribbon that are 8-inches long. Cut the ribbon with the scissors.
2. Heat the hot glue gun and then apply the glue to one of the 1 1/2-inch sides of the Styrofoam square. Affix one piece of brown ribbon so that it covers the side completely. Repeat the process until all four sides are covered with ribbon.
3. Paint the cardboard tube brown. Let the paint dry.
4. Fold a piece of green construction paper in half. Use a pencil to draw half a palm tree leaf so that the edges of your drawing face away from the fold. If you prefer, you may use a palm tree leaf template found online. Cut out the palm tree leaf and repeat the process until you have three leaves.
5. Hot glue the edges of the dry paper towel tube to the Styrofoam square. Gently stuff a piece of brown crepe paper in the tube to help the trunk hold its shape. Make sure that the crepe paper is even or slightly above the trunk top. Hot glue the wide end of each leaf to the top of the exposed crepe paper so that the leaves cover the top of the trunk and fall over the top of the tree trunk. You can add more leaves, if desired.
6. Use a paintbrush to coat the Styrofoam with glue. Sprinkle sand over the glue to create the appearance of a beach. Cut a few 6-inch-by-3-inch pieces of the towel. Glue them to the sand to provide the appearance of beach towels. If desired, glue a miniature beach chair to the sand.
7. Affix a self-sticking table number to the centerpiece. You can affix the numbers directly on the sand or affix them to the back of a beach chair.
