Plan A Beach Theme Party

Beaches provide a feeling of relaxation and fun. You can get the same feeling by hosting a beach-themed party for any special occasion. The best part is that it doesn't have to be in the summer (as long as you blast the heat for your guests in their swimsuits) and it doesn't take much thought to design, decorate and provide fun activities for your party.

Instructions

1. Design your invitations or buy them from a store. If you're designing them yourself, a good idea is to create the invitations in the shape of a flip-flop or a starfish. If you decide to buy them from a store, it shouldn't be difficult to find a tropical-themed invitation for your party (see Resources below). Be sure to tell your guests to bring their swimsuits and sarongs!

2. Decorate your party with things like starfish, sand dollars, beach towels, shovels and pails, small artificial palm trees and sea shells. For a centerpiece, you could use a glass vase filled with sand, seashells and starfish (see Resources below).

3. Make your food. Starfish-shaped cookies or a flip-flop inspired cake are both good ideas. You could also have seafood like shrimp or lobster, and for drinks, you could create mock martinis (or real martinis if you're of age) with small umbrella decorations.

4. Have activities for your guests, like designing their own surfboard. You can use styrofoam to cut out surfboard shapes and have rhinestones, paint and markers for your guests to decorate their mini surfboards. Another good activity idea is to have a small sandbox at your party and have a sandcastle contest. A good prize would be a real surfboard, a sailboat replica or a bag of beach supplies (suntan lotion, beach towels or a small cooler).

5. Give your guests party favors like saltwater taffy, margarita glasses, bags of seashells or small tea light candles shaped like starfish (you can buy them at your local party shop).

6. Make a play list for your party. Music could include songs like the "Gilligan's Island" theme song, "Fun Fun Fun" by the Beach Boys or "Pina Colada" by Rupert Holmes (see Resources below).
