Plan A Mother & Daughter Banquet

A mother-and-daughter banquet can be a bonding experience for both.

Some people say the bond between a mother and daughter is like no other in the world. Mothers and daughters are bound together from the day of a daughter's birth, and a mother-and-daughter banquet is a wonderful way to celebrate this bond. Whether you decide to commemorate with a simple luncheon or an elegant dinner, you will need to plan the details of this event carefully in order to make it successful. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide upon the number of mother-daughter duos (or groups) you would like to attend the banquet and devise a guest list. Write down the names and contact information of all attendees for future reference. A guest list of 40 to 50 people would be a recommended size for this type of banquet.

2. Choose a date and time for your banquet. While it will be virtually impossible to accommodate every mother and daughter's schedule, you should try to choose a date when most people are available. It may help to choose several possible dates and vote on which date would work best for everyone involved.

3. Find a venue at which to hold your banquet. Many restaurants have private rooms or even halls that you can rent for this purpose. Depending on the size of your banquet, you may need only a large room or an entire hall. Call the venue and reserve the date; reservations of such spaces usually require a small monetary deposit.

4. Decide upon a theme. Potential themes for mother-and-daughter banquets include a fashion show, a tea party or a game show. Have mothers and daughters dress up in clothing from their teenage years or answer questions about each person's experiences growing up during a particular era.

5. Choose colors, decorations and centerpieces for the tables. You may want to visit the venue first to determine how much space you have as well as to figure out the table layout and other room dimensions. You also should ask what you are and aren't allowed to use, as some rental facilities have policies against decorations like candles and glitter.

6. Decide upon a menu for food and drinks. Some venues provide catering services, in which case you can work with those staffers to select menu items. Otherwise you will need to look for a catering service to provide your meal and beverages. You may want to have a light menu of sandwiches, vegetables and tea or a multiple-course meal with an open bar. This will depend upon your preference and budget. If you have an open bar or a drinks menu, consider creating a signature cocktail for guests to drink, such as a "Mom-tini" or a "Daughter Daiquiri."

7. Create invitations. You could choose photos of a mother-daughter pair from childhood and make copies for a front cover for the invitation. Or you could use photos of famous celebrity mother-daughter duos, such as Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson or Demi Moore and Rumer Willis. Be sure to provide a space for the venue, date and time, as well as a phone number for guests to RSVP.

8. Select party favors, which can range from simple to formal. A packet of seeds that your mother-daughter pairs can plant together is sweet. Or you could place Polaroid cameras and inexpensive frames on tables throughout the venue so that each mother and daughter can create a tangible photo remembrance of the day.

9. Finalize all the banquet details a week before the day of the event. Be sure to have an accurate head count for food, drinks and favors. Decorate your venue the day before the event. Use the morning of the banquet day for any last-minute items.
