Use Lock Picks

Locks provide security, but create a situation where you might lock yourself out.

Virtually everyone has had a need to pick a lock at one time or another, because either they or someone else has accidentally locked their keys in their home. Although picking a lock has a bad reputation, it is not illegal if used to open your own property, and it is therefore a skill that can come in handy many times. Picking a lock takes a lot of practice to do quickly, but it actually is quite simple. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Insert the tension wrench and pick into the key slot. The short end of the wrench should be inserted into the lower half of the key slot, with the long end pointing to the side. The pick should be inserted into the key slot with the point facing up.

2. Apply a bit of pressure on the tension wrench, putting tension on the lock to turn to the right. Do not release this pressure while you attempt to pick the lock.

3. Push the pick all the way into the key slot, and lever the point of the pick upward with slowly increasing pressure. Release the pressure after you have applied a firm amount of force, and pull the pick backward very slightly, and repeat the lever maneuver. The object is to target several pins that are at different depths inside the lock, and levering them up properly will result in a slight release in the right turn of the lock. If you successfully target each pin to its release point, the lock will open.

4. Release the tension on the lock and begin the procedure again if you believe you have improperly targeted the pins.
