Ideas For Decorations For An Adult'S Birthday

A birthday party for an adult may include traditional decorations like candles and confetti.

Adult birthday parties are often elegant and resemble more of a formal meal, but can also be upbeat and colorful. If you're helping to plan a friend or loved one's birthday party this year, incorporating their personal style into the decorations will make the occasion especially memorable and enjoyable for the guest of honor. Does this Spark an idea?

Sophisticated Decorations

If the birthday party will have a formal air to it, cover each of the tables at the party with silk or satin tablecloths in black or white. Use ivory china for each place setting, and add a pop of color by enhancing the settings with gold or silver charger plates. Use tall champagne glasses, and adorn the center of the table with flowers like lilies for a springtime or lunch event, or roses for a timeless and classic evening look. Long strips of tulle or satin fabric make an elegant alternative to streamers for decorating the bottom of the table where the food will be served, or to drape around the banner you've created for the guest of honor at the front of the party space.

'Personal' Decorations

Use items that the guest of honor loves to collect to create the birthday party decor. If the birthday girl collects seashells each time she goes on vacation, sprinkle small seashells on the tables, and arrange to have a cake baked in the shape of a seashell. Use argyle tablecloths and vases filled with golf clubs in place of flowers for a 40-year-old man who enjoys golfing. You can also enlarge candid photos of the guest of honor, and display them on the wall during the party; for a classic look, convert the photos into a black and white or sepia finish and frame them in gold or silver frames. Small pictures of the guest of honor with family and friends (many of whom may be at the party) can also serve as table centerpieces.

'Color' Decorations

Adorn the entire party space in the guest of honor's favorite color, and ask each guest to bring a gift that is within this color scheme. For a 'blue' party, cover each table in a midnight blue tablecloth, and add a wreath of bluebonnets around a clear glass fish bowl containing a blue beta fish. Create bouquets from large Mylar balloons in various shades of blue, and add a navy blue balloon weight to each bouquet, so that they will stay in the corners of the room where the party is being held. Send guests home with appropriately themed favors, like blue tins filled with mints, or gourmet blueberry muffins.
