Instructions

1. Select a photo for your invitation that is appropriate for the event. If you plan to put text on top of your photo, select one that has a clean background and isn't too busy. For example, if you are doing a save-the-date wedding invitation, choose a photo of the couple against a clear skyline.

2. Scan or upload your photo into your computer. Open a photo document in your photo editing program with the parameters of your photo. For example, if you have a 4-by-6-inch photo, start a new document in your program and put in those parameters. Make the parameters about an inch longer on each side if you plan to add a border or text with your photo editing program. You can also play around with added length if you have another design idea in mind.

3. Add design aspects and text to your photo using your photo editing program. For adding type, open a new text box and ensure it is brought forward to appear in front of the photo. Most photo programs come with different d cor tools, so your design will be based on what your program has. Remember to save your document when you are done.

4. Create a document in a word processing program, like Microsoft Office Word. Set the parameters of your document to the same size as your picture. Insert your picture into the document and scroll down to the second page, ensuring it has the same parameters as the first page.

5. Type the information you wish to have printed on the back of your photo invitation into the space you've set up on the second page. Use font, size and color of your choice, and place it however you like.

6. Click on "File" in the upper left hand corner of your document and select Print. Choose your printer in the print menu and select "Properties" or "Layout." Each printer may differ on what the tab is titled, but it's the area in which you customize your print job. Look for an option for double-sided or duplex printing and select that, then put in page one of your document for the front side, and page two with the information as your backside.
