Plan Classroom Icebreakers For Kids

Help kids get to know one another through classroom icebreaker activities.

Start the school year off right by letting classmates get acquainted with each other through icebreaker exercises. Icebreaker games help you get to know your students and students get to know one another. Use icebreaker activities as mid-year refreshers and team-building exercise, too. Find icebreakers that are appropriate and entertaining for your classroom grade, and prepare for laughter and perhaps reticence from some kids.

Instructions

1. Ask the children to look around the room for a few minutes and examine their classmates. Then ask each child to name two things that everyone in the class has in common.

2. Ask the students to stand at their desks. Call out a trait -- such as, "Who has a dog?" -- and encourage those who do to remain standing. Ask those who don't to sit down. Keep calling out traits until only one person is left standing.

3. Help the students stand close together in a circle. Ask each student to reach into the center of the circle and grab a hand of two other classmates. Once everyone has a hold on two people, give them the task of untangling the knot without dropping hands.
